IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT

Father Larry has asked that a poll be taken by parishioners to indicate the desire to install a crucifix in the sanctuary or not.  We have had two open discussions regarding adding a crucifix followed by a meeting to form two committees…one to organize a vote by registered parishioners on December 2-3 & 9-10, and a second committee to oversee the purchase of the crucifix if the vote for a crucifix is favorable.  The vote will be to determine if a crucifix should be purchased or not, with the location to be determined at a later date.  Only registered parishioners 18 years of age and older will be allowed to vote. The existing triptych will remain in its place.

All registered parishioners, 18 years and above, will be able to vote during the first two weekends of Advent to decide whether or not to display a crucifix in our church sanctuary. Bob Hall is leading the committee to organize and conduct this vote.

Knights of Columbus

The St. Aloysius Knights Christmas card sales will end the weekend of December 9 & 10. In addition to Christ-centered cards, we also have automobile magnets, letter seals, small tree ornaments, pins, advent wreaths and advent replacement candles after weekend Masses outside of the sacristy. Proceeds support various Knights’ sponsored charities.  Cards in Spanish are also available.  Please help us to Keep Christ in Christmas!

THE FRUIT HAS ARRIVED!

You may pick up the fruit you ordered from the Knights of Columbus at the three-bay garage between the nursery and church immediately after Mass this weekend and next. There are a few extra boxes available on a first come first served basis if you missed placing an order or to buy additional fruit.

POVERTY IN OUR COMMUNITY

Did you know that over 23,600 people live in poverty in Catawba County?  That is 1 in every 6.5 people!  Poverty comes in many different forms and is often misunderstood.   Greater Hickory Cooperative Christian Ministry exists to serve this population.  Their pharmacy can take a simple $25 donation and provide $1,175 worth of vital prescription drugs.

Their food pantry can turn a $50 donation into 294 pounds of food.

With a $100 donation, their dental clinic is able to provide services valued at $4,900.

Please consider partnering with GHCCM to love our neighbors by making a donation. If you would prefer to volunteer your time, there is a great need for their NETworX Catawba program that strives to assist people making the effort to change their lives and raise above the poverty level.  Volunteers are also needed for the CCM food pantry and thrift store.  Please see the tall poster in the hallway for more details and step forward to be the hands and feet our Lord expects us to be for our brothers and sisters! Questions? Email Dave Gerhardt at gerhardtdave1@gmail.com.

DECEMBER FOOD DRIVE FOR COOPERATIVE CHRISTIAN MINISTRY

Since Cooperative Christian Ministries can purchase 3-4 times as much food through their wholesalers at the same cost as we can buy retail, you also have the option to give a monetary donation to CCM either with or instead of your usual food donation.  Should you choose to give monetarily, this should in no way cut into your weekly tithing to the church, but should be in addition to it, just as it would be if you bought extra food to donate.   Please take a pre-addressed envelope from the hallway table to assist in your giving.   Checks are to be made out to either “GHCCM” or “Greater Hickory Cooperative Christian Ministry”, with “Food Pantry” on the Memo/For line and mailed to: 31 – 1st Avenue SE, Hickory NC 28602. If you prefer to give food items, please refer to your saved list from the previous bulletin.  Please give generously to our hungry brothers and sisters in need!

STEWARDSHIP COMMISSION

If you have not yet seen the first St. Aloysius “Inspiring Steward’, please take a look at the photo and brief write-up on the wall in the corridor outside the Sacristy as you leave Mass, The Stewardship Commission invites and encourages you to nominate someone who inspires you and why.  Please send your nominations and a brief write-up and photo to Jody Blake, Stewardship Chair, at dzinrgal1@hotmail.com.  How wonderful it is to see people who are giving back to God for all that He has given them!
